What you can do
- High quality, Balanced or Smallest file, each with its trade-off said plainly.
- Scanned pages and large pictures are redrawn compactly; light pages are left as they are.
- Text stays sharp and searchable, and every edit and redaction is kept.
- The result shows the size before and after, and says so if the file did not get meaningfully smaller.
How to do it
- Open Compress PDF and choose a PDF.
- Pick High quality, Balanced or Smallest file.
- Press Compress PDF, check the result, then Download, or continue to Protect or Split without compressing twice.
Good to know
- Compression that shrinks pictures is lossy: photos and shading can look softer at Smallest file. Your editable document is not changed.
- A file that is mostly typed text, or already compact, may not get much smaller.
- It runs in your browser: the file is not uploaded to NightOwl or anyone else.
- Tested with a 520-page, 128 MB scanned bundle on a laptop. Very large files need a computer with enough memory; phones manage less.
Questions
Will my scan still be searchable?
Yes. Text that was recognised or already in the file is kept as searchable text.
Can I compress several PDFs at once?
One document at a time. Choose several on the start screen and NightOwl asks which one, or merges them first.
