Protect PDF
Lock a PDF with a password to open it, or restrict printing, copying and changes.
What you can do
- AES-256 encryption with a password to open.
- Restrictions on printing, copying and changes, with their own password.
- The locked file is checked with its password before you get it, so it will open.
How to do it
- Open Protect PDF and choose a PDF.
- Set a password to open, and any restrictions.
- Press Protect, then Download.
Good to know
- NightOwl does not keep your password. If it is lost, the file cannot be opened.
- Restrictions are honoured by programs that respect them; some programs ignore them. A password to open is the real protection.
- It runs in your browser: the file is not uploaded to NightOwl or anyone else.
Questions
Can I protect a compressed file?
Yes. After Compress, choose Protect under “Continue with this file”: the locked file keeps that compression, applied once.
