What you can do
- Hindi and English on the same page, as court papers have.
- Pages upside down or on their side are turned the right way up.
- Search finds Hindi however it is spelled: हिन्दी or हिंदी, अतः or अत:, ज़ or ज.
- Downloaded files keep an invisible, searchable text layer, so the Hindi can be searched in other PDF readers too.
- High-accuracy OCR (Google Cloud Vision) for pages that are hard to read.
How to do it
- Open Make searchable and choose a scanned PDF.
- Recognition starts on your device.
- Search, copy, or Download the searchable PDF.
Good to know
- Free OCR is not uploaded: it runs in your browser.
- High-accuracy OCR is different: the page you choose is sent as an image to Google Cloud Vision, only when you ask.
- A free account scans 5 files a week (from Monday), by either reader. Professional has no weekly limit.
- Tested with a 520-page, 128 MB scanned bundle on a laptop. Very large files need a computer with enough memory; phones manage less.
Questions
Can I turn the Hindi into a Word file?
Yes. After OCR, PDF to Word gives an editable .docx with the Hindi text.
