Good to know

What the courts allow

Delhi: since 7 February 2026 an e-filed file may be up to 300 MB in the High Court and 20 MB in the District Courts (notification of 24 January 2026). Supreme Court: its e-filing help gives 50 MB as the largest file.

Courts also ask for searchable text and 300 dpi scans: a Delhi High Court circular of 26 July 2024 told the filing staff to check that every page is scanned at 300 dpi and searchable. So make the file smaller by compressing the pictures, never by scanning at a lower resolution or by dropping the text.

Other courts and portals set their own limits, and they change: the portal shows the current one.

Questions

What size limit should I type?

The one your court’s e-filing portal shows. Some published limits are in “What the courts allow” above; they change, so check the portal.

Will my scan still be searchable after compressing?

Yes. Text that was recognised or already in the file stays searchable.
