Sign PDF with DSC token
Digitally sign a PDF with the Class 3 DSC on your USB token, as e-filing and government portals ask, without the document leaving your computer.
What you can do
- Sign with the certificate on your USB token (ePass, ProxKey, Watchdata and other tokens whose driver is installed), through NightOwl Signer, a free Windows app.
- Or sign with a certificate file (.pfx or .p12) and its password, on any computer, without the app.
- Put the signature in a corner of a page, in the form’s own signature box, or in a box you draw.
- Add a reason and a place, as signed court papers often show.
- A trusted timestamp and long-term validation are added by default, so the signature can still be checked after the certificate expires.
- Certify the document or lock form fields after signing, when you need to.
How to do it
- Install NightOwl Signer from the Microsoft Store once, and plug in your token.
- Open Sign with DSC and choose a PDF.
- Pick your certificate and where the signature goes, then Sign. Your token’s own window asks for the PIN.
- Download the signed PDF.
Good to know
- Your PIN is typed into your token’s own window, never into NightOwl, and the document goes only from your browser to the app on the same computer.
- Chrome and Edge ask once whether nightowlpdf.com may talk to apps on this device: allow it, or the app cannot be reached.
- NightOwl Signer runs on Windows. On a Mac or a phone, sign with a .pfx or .p12 certificate file instead.
- Sign last: any change after signing makes the signature show as changed. Filling a signed form keeps the signature valid.
Questions
Which DSC tokens work?
Any Class 3 DSC on a USB token whose driver puts the certificate into Windows, as ePass, ProxKey and Watchdata drivers do. If your token works with other signing software on Windows, NightOwl Signer finds it too.
Is this the same as Sign PDF?
No. Sign PDF places a picture of your handwritten signature. Sign with DSC adds a certificate-based digital signature that a PDF reader can check.
Can I check a signed PDF?
Yes. Check signatures shows who signed, when, and whether the file changed after signing.
